Obituary of Helen Louise Filor

Helen Louise Filor passed away peacefully at her home in Stony Point nine days before her 100th birthday. Helen was born in Garnerville, New York, on May 18, 1914, to John and Helen (deBerg) Filor and moved to her home in Stony Point as an infant where she resided until her death. Helen's education began in a one room schoolhouse located on Filors Lane in Stony Point. She graduated Centenary Collegiate Institute (high school) in Hackettstown, New Jersey, Wheelock College in Boston, Massachusetts, and Teachers College of Columbia University in New York City. Helen taught kindergarten for many years at The Letchworth Village Developmental Center. Helen was predeceased by her parents, her brothers John and Frank Filor, and her nephews Edward (Ned) Filor of Cooperstown, New York, and Stephen Filor of Poughkeepsie, New York. She is survived by her nephew John Filor of Bunnell, Florida and her nephew Stephen's wife Anna May Filor. Helen is also survived by many great and great, great nieces and nephews all of whom adored their beloved "Auntie Pete". A kind and gentle woman, Helen had a deep love of children and nature. With her cherished friends, she travelled the world and enjoyed many hobbies including golf, tennis, bowling, and gardening. She was a member of the Ramapo Mountain Ski Club and enjoyed skiing well into her '80s. Helen was a devoted member of the Trinity Episcopal Church. A funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 13th at 10:00 a.m. at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 28 Chapel Street, Garnerville, New York. Interment will follow at Oak Hills Cemetery, Nyack, New York.
