I worked for Insp. McKenna at the 46 Pct. and he was one of the nicest bosses I worked for. He was a great motivator of those who worked there, he would work with if you needed certain tours to take care of your family or attend school. After I made Sgt. and transferred to another command, I would run into him from time to time and he always had time to say hello and ask how I was doing. Always a gentleman and a great boss. Rest in Peace Boss.

Insp McKenna was doing Compstat long before anyone else even thought of the title. I was a Lieutenant on the 43 Desk when Insp McKenna, CO of the 8th Div, called one evening asking about robberies in Parkchester. Before I could answer he let out with a blood-curdling scream and hung up the phone. I had no idea what happened or where he was when he called. Fearing now for his safety, I promptly called the boro asking if he was there. The officer on the "wheel" assurred me he was there and he was O K. I later found out that he was watching the Boston College game where Doug Flutie threw up the Hail Mary pass at the end of the game in the final seconds winning the game for BC. Funny what you remember but there's no doubt he was one of the best police tacticians ever who would have excelled under the Compstat sysem of today. He was way ahead of his time.

Jim was not only good boss but good friend . I will miss those once a month lunches in Sparky's where he was greeted as a visiting celebrity by staff and regular diners. It made me feel I was in the company of a very important icon---which I was---. R.I.P Jim.
