Obituary of John L. Gosda

John L. Gosda Jr. passed away peacefully, surrounded by his wife and children, on June 30, 2014 at the age of 80. He was born November 1, 1933 to John and Caroline Gosda in Haverstraw, N.Y. He was dedicated to God and his country and served in the U.S. Army. Following his military service he worked for Orange and Rockland Utilities. He later opened his own business, Orange and Rockland Appliance Sales, in the community where he lived. Many years later he worked for Mazda Corporation as their top sales associate. John was married for 57 years to the love of his life, Marlene Dippre. They raised their family and have been residents of Stony Point since 1961. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He is survived by his wife Marlene, his son Ken (Brenda) of Garnerville, his daughter Karen Reilly (Tom) of Cornwall, his son Keith (Kathy) of New Windsor; his 11 grandchildren: Jennifer (Dan), Thomas (Ashley), Jessica, Michael, Katelyn, Nicole, Kevin, Danielle and Samantha and one great-grandson Thomas. He is also survived by his brother Lawrence (Annmarie) of New Jersey, his brother-in-law Martin Dippre (Ann) of Arizona, and sister-in-law Denise Calabrese (Eugene) of Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews. John was a former little league coach, CYO basketball coach and an active member of the community who influenced many lives. He was an avid sports enthusiast with his favorite teams, the Mets and Jets. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him as "Coach." John was a devoted member of St. Gregory's Parish in Garnerville One of John's favorite sayings was, "God is Good All the Time". John's family will receive friends at T.J. MCGOWAN SONS FUNERAL HOME, GARNERVILLE, on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 from 4-8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, July 3 at 10am at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church, Garnerville, with interment to follow at Mount Repose Cemetery, Haverstraw.
