Obituary of George M. Gannon

George M. Gannon, 89, originally from Stony Point, passed away on September 13, 2014. Born to Michael and Mary (Sullivan) Gannon on May 30, 1925 in the Bronx, George lived for most of his life in Stony Point. George served in the United States Navy during WWII. On May 28, 1955 he married his beloved wife Catherine Melican. They were married for 54 years. George graduated from Iona College with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He worked for many years in automotive sales in Rockland County. He was a dedicated and proud member of the Elks BPOE #877 in Haverstraw, as well as the Knights of Columbus #581 of Haverstraw He was also an avid fisherman and will be remembered for his outgoing personality and his friendly spirit. George is survived by his loving children: Annemarie (Frank) Kopko of Newburgh, John M. (Catherine) Gannon of Valley Cottage, and by his beloved grandchildren Meaghan and Christopher Kopko of Newburgh. He is preceded in death by his wife Catherine, his sister Margaret Gannon, and by his parents. George's family will receive friends at T.J. McGOWAN SONS FUNERAL HOME, GARNERVILLE, on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church, Garnerville, on Wednesday, September 17 at 10am, with interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.
