Obituary of Ilse Gunby

Ilse E. Gunby, of Garnerville, NY passed away peacefully on April 19, 2013. She was born on May 7, 1923 in Berlin, Germany to Oswald and Katherine (Neumann) Bandow. Ilse worked as an Executive Assistant at Sintercast Division of Chromalloy Corporation in West Nyack, NY from 1963 - 1982, retiring from Leitz, Inc. in Northvale, NJ in 1988. Ilse was committed to promoting quality education and was a Haverstraw-Stony Point Central School District School Board Member from 1978 - 1990, also serving as Vice President and President during her tenure. She was also a Teacher's Center Board Member, Rockland County School Boards Association Member, Board Member and Treasurer of the League of Woman Voters of Rockland County and a Literacy Volunteers of Rockland County Board Member, Treasurer and English Language Tutor. Ilse was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years Henry Gunby (Feb. 12, 2013). She is survived by her loving children Vivian Steinmetz and her husband Ernest of Oakland, NJ, Steven Gunby and his wife Margaret of Potomac, MD, her adored grandchildren Alyssa, Brianna, Benjamin, David, and a sister Liselotte Hongimann of Germany.
