Obituary of Carmela Josephine Grau
Carmella Josephine Grau of Garnerville, NY, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2017. She spent the final days of her wonderful life surrounded by family and loved ones. Carmella was born September 22, 1927 in Piermont, New York to Angelina (Julia) and Antonio Ventriglia. Carmella married the love of her life, Frederick Herman Grau, on November 27, 1952, and now joins her beloved husband in Heaven.
Carmella attended Tappan Zee High School and worked for 40 years at AT&T, at first as a switchboard operator and later in administration. She was a member of the S.W. Johnson Ladies Auxiliary for 40 years and an active member of the Rockland County Volunteer Fireman's Association Ladies Auxiliary up to her passing. Carmella was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church.
She is survived by her three sons, Frederick Jr. (Mary Jean), Michael (Kimberly), and Robert (Donna), a brother, Anthony (Jake) Ventriglia, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Carmella was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend who devoted her life to her family. She had attended Yankees games since the 1940's. Her positive attitude and hearty laugh will be sorely missed by all.
Visitation will be at the T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home, 71 N. Central Hwy. Garnerville, NY on Monday, December 11, from 2-4 and 7-9. Mass will be held at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 12 at 10am. Burial will follow at Rockland Cemetery, Sparkle, NY.
