Obituary of Avis M. Wolfing

Avis M. Wolfing, of Haverstraw, peacefully passed into God's care on April 16, 2014 at home with her family. She was 97. Born to Augustus and Margaret (Sherman) Coates on January 12, 1917 in West Haverstraw, NY. Avis was a lifelong North Rockland resident and devout member of St. Peter's Church in Haverstraw. Avis is survived by her children: Albert Jr. (Nancy), Andrew Carl (Mickie), Avis (Eric) Kassner, and Alvina Miller Wolfing (Emmett), by her grandchildren: Alex, Patti, Elizabeth, Adam, Paul, Rebecca, Dirk, and Eleanor; by her great-grandchildren: Aaron, David and Matthew. She is also survived by her brother Willis Coates and by her sister Germaine "Jerry" Springstead. Avis is predeceased by her beloved husband of 59 years Albert C. Wolfing, her sisters Kathryn Kovach and Muriel Williamson, and by her brother Augustus "Buddy" Coates. Avis's family will receive friends at T.J. McGOWAN SONS FUNERAL HOME, 133 Broadway, Haverstraw, on Saturday, April 19, 2014 from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, April 21 at 10am at St. Peter's Church, Haverstraw, with interment to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, Haverstraw.
