Obituary of Joseph D Turmer

Joseph, (Joe), Turner of Chester N.Y. entered into eternal rest on August 25, 2014 following a short illness. He was 81. The son of the late Joseph James Turner and Helen Cecilia Coan, he was born at home on March 15, 1933 in Upper Nyack, N.Y. Joe was a lifelong resident of Rockland Co before moving to Orange Co six years ago. He graduated from Nyack High School and joined the Army. He served during the Korean Conflict attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was honorably discharged in 1955. He attended New York University before marrying Catherine Spath on December 29, 1956. Through the years Joe found the greatest joy in his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren kept him young and brought him joy. Survivors include his daughter Denise Turner and her partner Coy Childers of Bloomingburg N.Y., his sons Joseph Turner Jr. and his wife Margaret of Sound Beach, L.I., John Turner of New Windsor, N.Y, Robert Turner, of Newburgh, N.Y, and David Turner and his partner Dr. Calvin Cohen of Jamaica Plains, Mass., ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and his brother Charles Turner of Spring Hill, Fl. In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his wife Catherine M, his daughter, Catherine A, his grandson; Jimmy, and his sisters; Anna Denise and Marianne. Visitation will be Sunday, August 31, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at McGowan's Funeral Home, ( please add address ) At the family's request a Mass of Christian Burial will be private.
