Obituary of John Scanlon
John Scanlon
Haverstraw - Mr. John Scanlon, born on February 2, 1929 in Lisselton, County Kerry, Ireland, passed away peacefully at age 89 on June 16, 2018 in Haverstraw, New York with his loving family by his side. John served in the Army during the Korean War and he also worked 26 years as a police officerwith the New York City Police Department until he retired in 1985. John was the loving husband of Mary Scanlon (nee Browne). He was preceded in death by his son, John Scanlon; daughter, Eileen Scanlon; brothers, Martin Robert Scanlon, Thomas Scanlon, Patrick Scanlon, and Fr. William Scanlon; and his sister, Sr. Mary Scanlon. John is survived by his sons, Eugene (Eileen) Scanlon, Brendan (Erin) Scanlon, Thomas (Nicole) Scanlon, and William (Christine) Scanlon; daughter, Kathleen Fox; sister, Kit Quinlan; and his adored grandchildren, Kiera Fox, Kristen Fox, Thomas Fox, Kailyn Fox, Madison Scanlon, Jack Scanlon, Bridget Scanlon, Deirdre Scanlon, Sean Scanlon, Megan Scanlon, Liam Scanlon, Kayla Scanlon and Kaitlyn Scanlon as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was a long time active member of Division One Ancient Order of Hibernians and served as the Grand Marshall of the 1985 Rockland County Saint Patrick's Day Parade as well as serving as an Aide to the Grand Marshall of the 1985 New York City Saint Patrick's Day Parade. The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home, 71 N. Central Highway, Garnerville, New York, 10923. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for John on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Church, Haverstraw with internment to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, Haverstraw.
